eToro has launched its stock lending programme in the UK, allowing retail investors to generate passive income by lending out their shares. This move expands access to a practice traditionally reserved for large institutions.
UK investors can now earn passive income by lending out their shares, as trading platform eToro expands its stock lending programme to Britain.
The scheme, already active in Europe and the UAE, allows eligible users to lend fully-paid stocks they hold. eToro said it opens a practice “long dominated by large financial institutions” to everyday investors.
The service is supported by an expanded partnership with custodian bank BNY and the EquiLend platform, which manages the lending process.
Yossi Brandes, eToro’s VP of Execution Services, called the UK launch “a key step in our mission to make passive income opportunities available to every investor.”
