Commercial Bank of Qatar is eager to issue green bonds, according to its CEO

Chief Executive Officer Joseph Abraham told a conference in Doha that the Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) is interested in issuing green bonds if it can assure that the funds are used for projects that meet all green criteria.

“There’s a tremendous pool of investor capital available,” Abraham said, “and I believe that if you’re a trustworthy institution with a solid track record and adequate governance surrounding it, your bond will automatically be effective.”

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues are important to Qatar’s regulators and the stock market, and the bank’s management and board are working to improve CBQ’s ESG credentials, he added.
