Stocks stagnate as Trump threatens new tariffs; oil slides

U.S. stock futures were flat Tuesday after President Trump threatened steep new tariffs on imports from over a dozen countries, including Japan and South Korea.

Key moves:

  • Dow futures (YM=F): Slightly down
  • S&P 500 futures (ES=F): Up 0.1%
  • Nasdaq futures (NQ=F): Up 0.2%

Trump’s letters to 14 countries warned of 25%-40% tariffs starting August 1, delaying earlier planned levies. South Korea called the delay a “grace period” and vowed to speed up trade talks.
